The name combines "renewable energy" and "GIS" (geographic information systems). It is built and operated by Eqaim Technology and Services Private Limited (eqaim.com), based in India, and serves wind and solar developers in India and internationally.

The problem it solves
Energy companies acquire land and plot coordinates for wind turbines and solar arrays. Because several developers compete for the same land, assets from different companies often end up too close together. Two problems follow: a turbine placed physically inside another company's solar site, and wind-wake interference, where a turbine placed downwind of another loses energy and suffers extra mechanical load.
Checking these conflicts manually across a project and all its neighbours takes an analyst one to three days per project and has to be repeated every time coordinates change. reneGIS does the same audit in minutes and can be re-run on every revision.
Key capabilities of Windmill Micrositing
- Automated proximity auditing of thousands of coordinates using spherical-earth (Haversine) distances.
- Spacing thresholds expressed in rotor diameters (D), for example 5D and 7D, using the larger rotor of any pair.
- Directional wind-wake screening that considers the bearing between assets and the prevailing wind corridor.
- Solar project boundaries built from submitted corner coordinates, with inside-or-outside checks for competitor turbines.
- Multi-clash detection: one asset can be flagged against several competitors at once, with all matches listed.

Coordinate Converter details
- Converts between decimal degrees, degrees minutes seconds (DMS) and UTM on the WGS84 datum, in both directions.
- Accepts DMS in most notations (symbols, letters, colons, leading or trailing hemisphere letters) and pasted coordinate pairs.
- Detects the UTM zone automatically, including the Norway and Svalbard exceptions, and allows projecting into a neighbouring zone.
- Reports grid convergence and point scale factor, and shows the location on an interactive map. Click or drag on the map to pick a point.
- Maps on reneGIS show international boundaries as recognised by the Government of India.
